Ebenezer: story and trailer overview
The story
Johnny Depp plays Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by the spirits, setting a familiar ghostly confrontation into motion. The promotional copy promises a reimagining of the classic tale — the film positions Scrooge’s supernatural reckoning as the catalyst for a new take on his story.
Why it works
The sources confirm Depp as Scrooge, that spirits appear, and that Ti West is behind the project. For us, this suggests the film will lean into a reinterpretation of Dickens’ moral reckoning rather than a straightforward retelling, with a strong auteur stamp implied by the director credit.
What to expect
We expect the movie may reshape Scrooge’s familiar arc, emphasizing surprises or new revelations about his past and the visitations, rather than simply reproducing the traditional Dickens sequence.
Our take
We think this promises a distinct, director-driven revisit to Scrooge’s haunted transformation, marketed as a fresh perspective on a known tale.
