Top Movie Trailers

Does the editor of the movie trailer get to watch the movie way in advance so he/she can make a good preview for viewers? I’d imagine you’d have to know the movie really well to make a trailer but you see trailers months before the movie even comes out.

ive seen all thse spoof movie trailers, recut from the original movie on the net, youtube and so on.

but how the hell do i cut it together, like import the original film

im using windows movie maker - do i need a more fancy editing system?

and how do i import the film into the editing timeline to start chopping it together

any help greatfully recieved
